benefits to hiring an event planner

Happy Friday!

Whether you are taking some time to yourself this weekend or out and about getting things done, enjoy it!

December is the most popular month for engagements- 60% of engagements happen over the holiday season (crazy right??). Valentine’s Day was a popular time as well.

Being in the events industry, January & February are very busy months connecting with new clients and following up with those whose wedding dates are fast approaching. I love working smaller events; intimate weddings, baby showers, engagement parties, milestone birthdays, cocktail parties etc. I have a passion for working closely with every client to create a memorable celebration.

For those who are recently engaged or planning a special celebration, here are my top 5 reasons why you should hire an event planner:

1. We go through a step by step process to ensure your event is entertaining for you guests and all the details are taken care of.

2. We work for you to make sure things happen on time, on budget and within the theme. We are up to date on trends and we’re usually overflowing with ideas.

3. We keep you on track and organized. Planning can get overwhelming- it’s not for everyone so sometimes it’s best to leave it up to those in the industry. We have tips, tricks and connections to give you a different perspective on issues.

4. If and when a problem arises, an event planner can most often take care of it without the guests or host being aware.

5. Most of the time we already know the vendors. People are more likely to remember an event where things went wrong (ex: the dj didn’t show up, caterer was horrible) and that’s not the type of memories you want your guests to walk away with!

You want to enjoy this special time with friends and family and we make sure that happens : )

no more winter blues

I think we are all just about ready for spring.

Although the snowflakes, hot chocolate and skating dates were fun in December, it’s easy to feel those winter blues by March.

Beach season will come sooner then you think though! So let’s climb out of the rut, get energized and say goodbye to those winter blues. Here are some of my tips:

1. Do something that’s been on your to-do list forever. Don’t you feel so much better after getting those things done? Give your home office a makeover, reorganize your closet and donate old clothes, print pictures, paint some frames.. Making the space around you prettier and more efficient will make you feel the same way!

2. Get outside. I know , it’s freezing. But even a few minutes of fresh air can made a big difference.

3. Treat yourself- you work hard and everyone deserves to be spoiled once in a while. Whether it’s a manicure, a weekend away, a new “something”- do something for you.

4. Exercise. That 30 minute pilates class, jog on the treadmill or walk with the pup can make a big impact on your mental and physical health. It also gives you time to disconnect which we all know can be a difficult task.

5. Find what makes you happy and do it. Whether it be a new business venture, a project, catching up with an old friend, setting aside more family time, whatever it may be,  make sure you find yourself smiling.

the wedding room

Many would agree with me that the wedding industry isn’t as glamorous as it seems; there are some really long days and even longer nights, endless e-mails and multiple opportunities to capture, people to impress and places to be.. That being said, there are definitely days when life is filled with sparkles, sequinned dresses, incredible desserts and stunning stationary.

Sunday was one of those oh so glamorous days for me.

As a planner from the Kitchener-Waterloo area, driving to the city (Toronto) is always filled with excitement for me. I know when making the mini road trip that I am heading into an exciting meeting, a beautifully decorated room or chatting with wonderful people and couples with whom I share a passion or vision.

Thank you to the vendors who took the time to tell me about their businesses, hear about mine and share some of their amazing work.

As promised, here’s a tiny peek of all that was The Wedding Room Show at The Arcadian.

weekend happenings

 Happy Monday everybody!

Do you ever have those weekends that feel just a little longer then usual? The ones where you get to do so many fun things?

Last weekend was one of those for me. Busy? Yes. But awesome? Also yes.

Friday night I ran some errands, watched a movie with my love and prepared these cupcakes for a charity event today.

Saturday morning was spent at Williams Coffee Shop working away and meeting with potential clients. I just love meeting new couples and hearing their stories.

DIY home organization

Happy Friday everyone!

Today I am sharing some of my favourite DIY home organization projects. When it’s this cold out, craft time and a hot chocolate sounds like the perfect Sunday

What I love about these projects is that most of them can be done with items you already have at home!

Using an old frame or window shutter to hang jewellery is an awesome idea! I love the look of having everything displayed so it can easily be found yet be organized and look nice.

ziptie shower curtainsummer scarves

Does anyone else have a scarf obsession? I have SO many and this DIY project is perfect to keep them all in one spot. Using shower curtain hooks and zip ties- this super functional piece is easy to make and fits right in the closet!

etched glass

When it comes to crafts Martha Stewart knows best! Check out this post about how to create this awesome etched glass jars to stay organized in the kitchen.

groomsmen gifts

Good morning everyone!

With the cold weather keeping me inside and engagement season in full swing I have been in total wedding mode- Pinterest,  client meetings and crafts have taken over my life but I have to say- I absolutely love it!

I’ve been chatting (and writing) a lot about entertaining, decor, recipes etc. And although men probably benefit from the recipes.. I don’t want them to feel left out! So today’s wedding wednesday is for the boys! (and maybe for the girls since you will probably be doing some of this shopping).

Groomsmen gifts can be a little tricky so I collected a few of my favourite ideas for you!

I love these personalized cufflinks- in my mind wedding party gifts are all about adding a personal touch and making those close to you feel extra special- this gift does that perfectly! You can find these on Etsy, small shops or sites like Uncommon Goods.

Boat shoes! What a great gift, these are the perfect shoe for every man.

Every man needs a great wedding/survival kit. A tie, some whiskey, a cigar and some steak spice is pretty much all they need!

I’ve got so many more.. I may have to do part 2 : )

happy planning!

a petal or two

It’s the month of love, and I am hoping many of you celebrated with chocolates, bubbly and florals over the weekend.

I mentioned in my welcome post that I would be featuring some amazing vendors and today I am so happy to share with you a petal or two, “a Guelph based floral and event design company with an innovative style that will bring floral flair to your function”.

edited-63

I have had a chance to work with Katherine & Sarah this year and it has been great. Not only are they extremely talented but they are also a pleasure to work with!

I asked these ladies a few questions in hopes of sharing some industry info with brides-to-be, inspiring potential clients and introducing vendors to this local company. Here’s what I found out!

1. How would you describe your style?

a petal or two style is simple yet stunning and always staying on the cutting edge of the floral design world. With a love for floral art we are always trying to create pieces that will wow our clients.

2. Where do you get your inspiration?/ What inspires you?

We get most of our inspiration from the outside elements, each client we meet with, floral magazines from Europe, floral blogs from around the world and just talking with other designers.  We find the more you talk out a design, research the idea and think about it the more excited you get and then the ideas just start to flow!

3. What are the top trends for wedding florals in 2014? Which are you most looking forward to?

Vintage is back again and gold is a very popular colour this year. Thanks to William and Kate the woodland theme is also big with floral trees as centerpieces with hints of crystals and jewels to jazz it up.

We are really looking forward to the woodland theme as we love the natural look with lots of greens and texture. Texture in floral arrangements give it so much more depth and make it that much more interesting and appealing to the eye.  The woodland theme will make for something a little different this year.

4. Flowers can get expensive quickly! What can I do to stay within my budget?

Stick with in season flowers.   For example in spring you can do a lot of beautiful arrangements with spring flowers they are  grown locally so it cuts down on costs.  For bouquets sticking to one flower type always makes it more cost efficient.  You don’t need a lot of different flowers in a bouquet to make it look beautiful. Also look at using greenery to create interest as greenery can help cut costs as well.

5. If a bride is not sure what she wants, or doesn’t know much about flowers, how can you help her create a vision?

We always sit down with our clients in a consultation and brainstorm the look they want for their wedding.  We start off by asking what they like and don’t like what flowers they prefer and what colours they want in their wedding which helps us. From there we can start building and creating a design, showing them pictures and start talking  them through design ideas.  Not everything we say  to our clients they like, but then from there we work on something else.  We  like to start from the beginning and work our way through our list of questions and by the end we have a wedding design!
