the signature drink

I just love a signature drink!

The thought, presentation and recommendation of a signature drink is the perfect extra touch to your bar.

Today, I am sharing some favorite winter wedding (or party) signature drink recipes!

The Caramel Apple Martini:

1 oz. Baileys Irish cream
1/2 oz. apple schnapps
1/2 oz. butterscotch schnapps
2 oz. half-and-half or whole milk
coarse sugar
ground cinnamon

1. Rim glass with coarse sugar mixed with cinnamon. 2. For each cocktail, pour all ingredients into a drink shaker. 3. Fill shaker with ice then shake and strain cocktail into a chilled glass, with or without ice.

Pomegranate Champagne Cocktail:

1 oz. chilled pomegranate juice or chilled cranberry juice (2 tablespoons)

3 oz. chilled champagne (6 tablespoons)

1 teaspoon pomegranate seeds (optional)

For each serving, pour the pomegranate juice into a champagne flute. Slowly add champagne.

Garnish with pomegranate seeds (optional). Serve immediately.

Cranberry Margarita:

1 1/2 cups cranberry juice cocktail

3/4 cup fresh lime juice

3/4 cup tequila

1/2 cup orange-flavored liqueur, such as Cointreau or Triple Sec
ice cubes

Stir all ingredients together until blended.

Serve over ice in sugar- or salt-rimmed glasses, garnished with fresh cranberries and lime wedges if desired.

Honeycrisp Apple Sangria:

3 cinnamon sticks

2 honeycrisp apples, chopped

1 orange, thinly sliced

1 (750 ml) bottle red wine (I suggest a light-bodied Spanish variety)

1 and 3/4 cups apple cider

1/2 cup brandy

1/4 cup orange juice (or juice from 2 medium oranges)

juice from 1 lemon

club soda, to taste

Place the cinnamon sticks, apples, and orange slices in a large pitcher. Add wine, apple cider, brandy, orange juice, and lemon juice. Allow to sit in the refrigerator for 6 – 24 hours.

Taste; if you’d like it to be sweeter, add 1-2 Tablespoons granulated sugar, honey, or agave. If you’d like a cinnamon-sugar rim, simply moisten the rim of your glasses with water, turn the glass upside down and dip it into a mix of cinnamon and sugar.

Pour in the sangria with fruit and add a splash of club soda.

Garnish with a cinnamon stick, if desired.

Toasted Almond Cocktail:

1 oz vodka (or vanilla vodka)
1 oz coffee liqueur
1 oz amaretto
half & half
honey & gold sanding sugar – optional for garnish

1. Dip cocktail glass rim in honey then in gold sanding sugar. Set aside.
2. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice; combine vodka, coffee liqueur, and amaretto. Shake until well chilled and pour into prepared glass.
3. Top with a splash of half & half.
4. Sip & enjoy.

Are you planning or considering a winter wedding? The snow covered season is such a beautiful time of year and we love the creativity that can go into making winter celebrations so unique.

Let’s Get Inspired..

Using natural elements such as branches and simple florals can make a big impact on the overall look of a space.

Having the curtains open with a snow filled view would be a perfect piece to your decor-at no cost!

Don’t be afraid to mix metallics! Silver and Gold can complement each other well. Play around with these tones- they are perfect for this time of year!

The use of Christmas ornaments and traditional holiday decor can enhance your table decor simply, and beautifully.

Hot chocolate bars and marshmallow roasting stations are fun ideas to get our guests engaged and have a great treat!

There are so many cute favor gifts you can do this time of year! Christmas ornaments, hot chocolate mix, or something edible such as gourmet treats are great themed items your guests will love to take home.

So, are you inspired yet?

the cocktail party host

Cocktail parties have to be one of our favorite types of events!

Your guests have the flexibility of showing up when it fits in their schedule, stay for as long as they would like, enjoy a few treats and mingle with an intimate group!

the creative details hosted it’s first wedding industry networking event on Thursday night and despite the storm and cancellations, we would like to think it was a success!

Our plan was to get a small group of (amazing/enjoyable/ talented) vendors together as a thank you for a great wedding season and a cheers to being industry friends!

Here are a few tips for planning your first cocktail hour!

1. Don’t worry about the number of guests. A cocktail hour should have a casual feel with people coming and going as they please. Whether there is a group of 5 or a group of 50 in the room, it will be a great time!

2. Know your group. We were inviting all industry-related guests so we made sure our event was not on Friday/Saturday/Sunday when they would be working. A Thursday evening seemed like the perfect timing for the group to get together and have a glass of champagne before the busy weekend!

3. Pick a theme or color scheme for your event (ours was Kate Spade inspired). This helps guide you through the planning process to ultimately create a pretty, coordinated evening.

4. Keep it simple and work with people you trust. We had hors d’oeuvres, mini sandwiches, snacks and sweet cookies! That’s it. Not need to go over the top, no one is anticipating dinner, just a little something.

5. Enjoy yourself. Hosting a networking event is like hosting a dinner party or an event in your home. You want to be calm, enjoy your guests and not run around worrying about things being done (planning ahead and keeping it simple helps so much with this!)

Thank you to the all the vendors who helped us make this event and a special thank you to the wonderful team at Balzac’s Coffee Roasters for being such a pleasure to work with and an a wonderful, unique venue for our networking event!

Happy Planning

I Said Yes! Now what?

You’ve probably been dreaming of this day since you were a little girl. The magical day your love is down on one knee and asks you to spend forever with him.

Just a few weeks ago, my sister got to experience the utter bliss of this life-changing moment. It all started with a date at the young age of 15 that transitioned into seven more great years together! If that isn’t a cute love story then I don’t what is.

We all know the planning/dreaming/thinking begins the very next day. But, where to start!?

For those recently engaged, here are some items to start thinking about:

- Length of Engagement (do you want ample time for planning and decisions, or do you know what you want and feel ready to do it)

- Wedding date (season, month, date. Keep in mind those long weekends and holidays).

- Size of wedding (and budget!)

- Location: Local or Destination, possible venues, themes & styles

- Hiring a good wedding planner/day of coordinator (having someone to take care of all those details ensures you will get to enjoy this special moment with friends and family!)

Congratulations on those recently engaged. However it may be, get inspired and enjoy the process!

Meet Mel.

Good morning everyone!

I am so excited to introduce all of you to newest member of the TCD team. Mel will be creating and writing blog posts, design boards, spicing up our social media pages and assisting with our events!

Meet Mel.

My name is Melissa and I am a 20-year-old student at Wilfrid Laurier University. I am an Economics major with a minor in Business.
I have always been very interested in event planning and I have often taken the lead in planning events with family and friends. It is something I am very passionate about and it is definitely a career I would love to pursue. I stumbled across The Creative Details website and was immediately interested in getting in contact with Catherine.
Lucky enough I was given the opportunity to be an intern for the company. I am excited for the experience and to be featured on the blog.

Stay tuned! More from Melissa coming soon!

Happy Thursday everyone!

When hosting parties with kids, I like to plan a lot of activities to keep them busy. This ensures they have fun and keeps them out of trouble :)

There are so many free printables online; bingo, word games etc. for every age!

Decorating sugar cookies is always fun too!
