all about the details

There’s something about the details that makes people feel special.

That extra thought or customization- it’s often what makes businesses successful. People work with people they like, with a service they trust. “the creative details” as a business name came from my love for the little things in life and my desire to make every client and every couple feel special.

I’ve always been excited over the small things, paid attention to the personalization of a gift or an event, and today’s post is inspired by that.

 Candy bars have been super popular for a while now. They are great for weddings, birthdays, showers etc.

People are getting very creative and providing there guests with a nice alternative to traditional favors. Candy bars allow guests to get engaged in an activity and if done properly they look awesome too!

 If you are considering a candy bar for your wedding, party or event, here are a few things to remember:

1. Determine a budget for this project- candy can get expensive quickly.

2. Pick a color or theme- this makes your candy bar part of the decor and can replace giving your guests favors! It also makes purchasing your candy a lot easier.

3. Make sure you have enough for everyone.

A good rule of thumb is to order between .2 and .25 pounds of candy per guest. For an event with 100 guest you should plan to have round 20-25 pounds of candy.

Number of guests x 3, divided by 16 = Grand Total in pounds

For example, we have 155 guests at the wedding I am coordinating this weekend:

155 x 3= 465, then 465/16 = 29lbs of candy (for kilos divide by 2.2 = 13kg)

4. Have a designated person to refill the jars if necessary (this could be a planner, coordinator, catering member or someone from your wedding party). You don’t want the jars sitting empty when only half the guests have had a chance to participate.

5. Don’t forget scoops, tongs & signs. For a wow factor get a sparkly table cloth, backdrop and fun accessories that match your theme.

a petal or two

It’s the month of love, and I am hoping many of you celebrated with chocolates, bubbly and florals over the weekend.

I mentioned in my welcome post that I would be featuring some amazing vendors and today I am so happy to share with you a petal or two, “a Guelph based floral and event design company with an innovative style that will bring floral flair to your function”.

I have had a chance to work with Katherine & Sarah this year and it has been great. Not only are they extremely talented but they are also a pleasure to work with!

I asked these ladies a few questions in hopes of sharing some industry info with brides-to-be, inspiring potential clients and introducing vendors to this local company. Here’s what I found out!

1. How would you describe your style?

a petal or two style is simple yet stunning and always staying on the cutting edge of the floral design world. With a love for floral art we are always trying to create pieces that will wow our clients.

2. Where do you get your inspiration?/ What inspires you?

We get most of our inspiration from the outside elements, each client we meet with, floral magazines from Europe, floral blogs from around the world and just talking with other designers.  We find the more you talk out a design, research the idea and think about it the more excited you get and then the ideas just start to flow!

3. What are the top trends for wedding florals in 2014? Which are you most looking forward to?

Vintage is back again and gold is a very popular colour this year. Thanks to William and Kate the woodland theme is also big with floral trees as centerpieces with hints of crystals and jewels to jazz it up.

We are really looking forward to the woodland theme as we love the natural look with lots of greens and texture. Texture in floral arrangements give it so much more depth and make it that much more interesting and appealing to the eye.  The woodland theme will make for something a little different this year.

4. Flowers can get expensive quickly! What can I do to stay within my budget?

Stick with in season flowers.   For example in spring you can do a lot of beautiful arrangements with spring flowers they are  grown locally so it cuts down on costs.  For bouquets sticking to one flower type always makes it more cost efficient.  You don’t need a lot of different flowers in a bouquet to make it look beautiful. Also look at using greenery to create interest as greenery can help cut costs as well.

5. If a bride is not sure what she wants, or doesn’t know much about flowers, how can you help her create a vision?

We always sit down with our clients in a consultation and brainstorm the look they want for their wedding.  We start off by asking what they like and don’t like what flowers they prefer and what colours they want in their wedding which helps us. From there we can start building and creating a design, showing them pictures and start talking  them through design ideas.  Not everything we say  to our clients they like, but then from there we work on something else.  We  like to start from the beginning and work our way through our list of questions and by the end we have a wedding design!
